Garner

Garner was incorporated in April of 1905. The region had formerly been little more than a railroad stop and post office known as the Village of Garner’s Station. In the earliest years, Garner’s roots were agricultural. As the town grew, the economy diversified into various trades and services, creating the base for a thriving small town that offers big-city conveniences.

More can be learned about Garner’s background at the Garner Station Historical Museum. The museum is located in Garner’s original train depot. Exhibits and collections focus exclusively on Garner history.

Several historic art and specialty museums are also located in nearby Raleigh. These include Mordecai Historic North Carolina Museum of History, North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, Playspace Children’s Museum and North Carolina Museum of Art. Also of note is Garner’s own, award-winning community theatre group. The Towne Players of Garner were named the best community theatre in the 2002 Triangle Theatre Awards.

Garner residents enjoy a moist climate of mild summers and cool winters. In the warmest months, June through August, temperatures top out in the high 90’s. December, January and February temperatures drop to the low-30s.
